Ejido

Venezuela

Ejido is a city located in Venezuela. However, the term "ejido" also refers to a specific system of communal land used for agriculture. In this system, community members are granted usufruct rights to the land rather than full ownership rights.

In Mexico, these lands are held by the Mexican state. While modern ejidos are often farmed individually in parcels, the community collectively maintains communal holdings under government oversight. The system is historically based on an understanding of the medieval Spanish ejido and the preconquest Aztec calpulli. Since the 20th century, the management and control of these lands have been overseen by the government.
