El Tocuyo is a city and fertile valley located in west-central Venezuela at an elevation of 622 meters (2,041 feet). It is situated in south-central Lara State, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of the city of Barquisimeto. The area currently serves as the municipal seat of Morán.
Founded by Juan de Carvajal in 1545 on the banks of the Tocuyo River, the town was originally named Nuestra Señora de la Pura y Limpia Concepción del Tocuyo. It held historical significance as the administrative capital of Venezuela Province from 1546 to 1548. According to 2001 census data, the population of El Tocuyo is 41,327.
