Barquisimeto is the capital city of Lara State and serves as the seat of the Iribarren Municipality in Venezuela. It is situated within the country's Central-Western Region.

The city functions as a significant urban, industrial, commercial, transportational, and musical center. It is recognized as the fourth-largest city in Venezuela by population, following Caracas, Maracaibo, and Valencia.

Barquisimeto is frequently referred to as the "Music City of Venezuela" because of its high concentration of musical institutions. Notably, it is the birthplace of Gustavo Dudamel, who serves as the director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
