Puerto Cumarebo is the capital of the Zamora Municipality in the Falcón state of Venezuela. Located approximately 40 miles east of Coro, the city is situated at an altitude of 13 meters and experiences an average climate temperature of 27 °C.
The settlement originated in 1600 as a community of "Loangos" people who escaped from Curacao. It was named in honor of Cacique Cumarebo, the leader of the region prior to Spanish arrival. On May 17, 1845, the Canton of Pueblo Cumarebo moved to Puerto Cumarebo, after which the port became a significant social and political center for the state.
Known as "The Pearl of Falcón," the geography of Puerto Cumarebo is characterized by coasts and plains intersected by rivers and small streams. The area also features hills that contribute to a mountain-like appearance.
