Puerto Cabello is a city located on the north coast of Venezuela in Carabobo State. It is situated approximately 210 km west of the capital, Caracas. As of 2011, the city had an estimated population of around 182,400 residents.
The city serves as a critical hub for the nation's economy because it hosts Venezuela's largest and busiest port. This infrastructure makes Puerto Cabello a vital component of the country's extensive oil industry. The name of the city is derived from the Spanish word for "hair," based on a local saying that the sea was so calm there that a ship could be moored to the dock with a single hair.
