Upata is a city located in the northern region of Bolívar State, Venezuela. It is situated within the bulk of Guayana and lies between the basins of the Orinoco and Cuyuní rivers. The city serves as the capital and most significant town of the Piar Municipality.
The name Upata is derived from an indigenous word, likely originating from the Kamaracoto ethnic group. It is believed to mean "Rose of the mountain," which was reportedly the name of a chief's daughter.
