Qarshi is a district-level city located in southern Uzbekistan and serves as the capital of the Qashqadaryo Region. It is situated approximately 520 km south-southwest of the national capital, Tashkent, and about 335 km north of the border with Afghanistan.
The city has a population of 278,300 and includes the urban-type settlement of Qashqadaryo. Qarshi is an important center for natural gas production and is also well known for its production of woven flat carpets.
