The tamandua is a genus of anteaters belonging to the Myrmecophagidae family. There are two recognized species within this genus: the southern tamandua and the northern tamandua.
These animals are semiarboreal creatures that inhabit forests and grasslands. They are characterized by possessing partially prehensile tails. Their primary diet consists of ants and termites, though they also occasionally consume beetles, insect larvae, and bees. When kept in captivity, tamanduas may eat meat and fruits.
