Moundsville is a city located in West Virginia, United States. It serves as the county seat of Marshall County and is situated along the Ohio River. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 8,122 residents and is considered part of the Wheeling metropolitan area.
The city was named in reference to the nearby Grave Creek Mound. This ancient earthwork was constructed between 250 and 100 BC by indigenous people belonging to the Adena culture.
