St Albans is a cathedral city located in Hertfordshire, England. It is situated approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-west of London, positioned between Hemel Hempstead to the east and Hatfield to the west. The city lies about 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Welwyn Garden City and 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Luton.

Historically, St Albans was the first major town on the old Roman road of Watling Street for travelers heading north. During the Roman period, it became known as the city of Verulamium. The current population of the city is 82,146.
