Texas City is a city located in Galveston County, Texas, within the United States. It serves as a suburb of Galveston and is part of the Houston-Galveston metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 51,898, ranking it as the third-largest city in Galveston County behind League City and Galveston.
Situated on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay, Texas City is a significant deepwater port on the Gulf Coast. The area functions primarily as a center for petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing. Historically, the city was the site of a major explosion in 1947 that resulted in the demolition of much of its port and urban infrastructure.
