Mesquite

United States

Mesquite refers to several types of plants within the genera Neltuma and Strombocarpa. These plants are characterized as spiny, deep-rooted leguminous shrubs and small trees. They are native to dry regions across the Americas.

Historically, these genera were included in a broad classification of the genus Prosopis. However, as of 2022, that genus has been restricted to only a few species native to the Old World.
