Mansfield is a market town and the administrative center of the Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. Located in the Maun Valley, it sits approximately 12 miles (19 km) north of the city of Nottingham. It serves as the largest town within the wider Mansfield urban area and ranks as the second-largest settlement in Nottinghamshire, following Nottingham.
The town was granted a Royal Charter of a market town by Henry III in 1227. Historically, it became the most important town among those located in Sherwood Forest. In modern governance, Mansfield is distinguished as the only local authority in Nottinghamshire to have a publicly elected mayor, known as the Mayor of Mansfield.
As of the 2021 census, the population of the Mansfield District was recorded at 110,500. The town remains a significant regional hub within its district and surrounding county.
