Dallas is a city located in northern Texas within the United States. It serves as the seat of Dallas County, which encompasses approximately 386 square miles and extends into several neighboring counties, including Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall.
The city is the third-most populous city in Texas and ranks ninth most populous in the United States, with a population of 1.3 million as of the 2020 census. Alongside Fort Worth, Dallas anchors the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, which is the most populous metropolitan area in Texas and the fourth-largest in the country.
Dallas is recognized as a core city of the largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States. It also holds the distinction of being the largest inland metropolitan area in the U.S. that lacks any navigable link to the sea.
