Hilton Head Island is a resort town located on a barrier island within the South Carolina Lowcountry. It serves as the principal city of the Hilton Head Island metropolitan area in Beaufort County, United States. The island is situated approximately 20 miles northeast of Savannah, Georgia, and 95 miles southwest of Charleston.
The year-round population of the island was recorded at 37,661 during the 2020 census. However, the population can increase significantly to approximately 150,000 during the peak summer vacation season. As of 2023, the broader Hilton Head Island metropolitan area had an estimated population of 232,523.
