Gold Beach was the code name for one of five specific areas designated during the Allied invasion of German-occupied France on June 6, 1944, during World War II. Located in Normandy, it served as a central landing zone situated between Port-en-Bessin to the west and Lieu-dit La Rivière in Ver-sur-Mer to the east.
Due to high cliffs at the western end of the zone, the actual landings occurred on the flat section located between Le Hamel and La Rivière, specifically within the sectors code-named Jig and King. The operation was primarily the responsibility of the British Army, supported by sea transport, mine sweeping, and naval bombardment forces provided by the Royal Navy, along with contributions from Dutch, Polish, and other Allied navies.
