Bethany, known locally in Arabic as al-Eizariya or el-Aizariya, is a Palestinian town located in the Jerusalem Governorate of Palestine. It borders East Jerusalem and is situated within the West Bank.
The town's name refers to the New Testament figure Lazarus of Bethany. According to the Gospel of John, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead in this location. The traditional site of this miracle, the Tomb of Lazarus, serves as a notable place of pilgrimage within the city.
