Steubenville is the county seat of Jefferson County, Ohio, in the United States. Located on the eastern border of the state along the Ohio River, the city abuts the northern panhandle of West Virginia and sits approximately 33 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
As of the 2020 census, Steubenville had a population of 18,161 residents. It is part of the Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area, which has an estimated population of 113,000. The city's name originates from Fort Steuben, a fort established in 1786 within the current city limits and named after Prussian military officer Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben.
