Delaware is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic regions of the United States. It shares land borders with Maryland to the south and west, Pennsylvania to the north, and New Jersey to the northeast, while its eastern boundary meets the Atlantic Ocean.
The name of the state originates from the nearby Delaware Bay. This bay was named in honor of Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, who served as an English nobleman and became the first colonial-era governor of the Colony of Virginia.
