Schenectady is a city located in Schenectady County, New York, within the United States. It serves as the county seat and is situated in eastern New York near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers. The city is part of the same metropolitan area as Albany, the state capital, which lies approximately 15 miles southeast.

According to the 2020 census, Schenectady has a population of 67,047 residents. This figure ranks it as the ninth-most populous city in the state of New York and the 25th-most populous municipality in the state.
