Gravesend is a town located in northwest Kent, England. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames, approximately 21 miles (35 km) east-southeast of Charing Cross and opposite Tilbury in Essex.
The town serves as the administrative centre of the borough of Gravesham and is located within the Diocese of Rochester. According to the UK Office for National Statistics, Gravesend marks the eastern limit of the Greater London Built-up Area. As of 2021, the town had a population of roughly 60,250.
