Fort Hamilton is a United States Army installation located in the southwestern corner of Brooklyn, a borough of New York City. It is situated within an area surrounded by the communities of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. The post serves as part of a region headquartered by the Military District of Washington.
The primary mission of Fort Hamilton is to provide military installation support for the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard within the New York metropolitan area. While the original fort was completed in 1831, it underwent significant expansions during the 1870s and 1900s. Approximately half of the original defensive structures remain intact today.
