Fort Sumner

Fort Sumner is a city located in the state of New Mexico, United States. It was historically established as a military fort within the New Mexico Territory.

The site is primarily notable for its role during the mid-19th century as a location for the internment of Navajo and Mescalero Apache populations. This period of confinement occurred between 1863 and 1868 at the nearby Bosque Redondo.
