The Toms River is a freshwater river and estuary located in Ocean County, New Jersey, in the United States. It spans a total length of approximately 41.7 miles (67.1 km) as it travels through the region.
The river originates in the Pine Barrens of northern Ocean County. From its source, it flows southeast and east in a meandering course through various wetlands, receiving water from several tributaries along its path. The Toms River eventually empties into Barnegat Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, at Mile 14.6 of the Intracoastal Waterway.
