Jersey City is a city located in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It serves as the county seat of Hudson County, which is the county's largest city by area and its most populous. Jersey City itself ranks as the second-most populous city in the state, following Newark.
According to the 2020 United States census, the city had a population of 292,449, representing an 18.1% increase from the 2010 census count. The city is characterized by its high level of diversity; as of 2020, it was the most ethnically diverse city in the United States, with 42.5% of residents born outside the country and more than 40 languages spoken in over half of all households.
