Laconia, also known as Lakonia, is a historical and administrative region located in the southeastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. Since 2011, the area has been organized as a regional unit with its capital city situated in Sparta.
The region is historically significant for its association with the ancient Spartans, who were known for their verbal austerity and blunt, pithy remarks. This cultural characteristic gave rise to the term "laconic," which describes speech that is spoken in a blunt and concise manner.
