Watford City

Watford City is a city located in McKenzie County, North Dakota, in the United States. Founded in 1914, it serves as the county seat for the region.

As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 6,207, with an estimated population of 6,378 in 2025. It currently ranks as the 14th-most populous city in North Dakota.

The city is situated within the Bakken field. Due to its location in this area, the North Dakota oil boom has led to significant population growth and construction activity since the 2010 census.
