Jacksonville is a city located on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. It serves as the county seat of Duval County, which it consolidated with in 1968. The city is colloquially known by the nickname Jax.

As of the 2020 U.S. census, Jacksonville had a population of 949,611, making it the most populous city proper in Florida and the tenth-most populous city in the United States. It is also the largest city in the Southeast region.

Following its consolidation with Duval County, Jacksonville expanded to cover 900 square miles. This expansion made it the largest city by total area, including both land and water, in the contiguous United States. The surrounding metropolitan area exceeds 1.76 million residents, ranking as the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Florida.
