Yazoo City is a city located in the state of Mississippi, United States. It serves as the county seat for Yazoo County and functions as the principal city of the Yazoo City Micropolitan Statistical Area. This area is further categorized as part of the larger Jackson–Yazoo City Combined Statistical Area.
The city was named after the Yazoo River. The river itself received its name in 1682 from French explorer Robert de La Salle, who called it "Rivière des Yazous" to reference the Yazoo tribe residing near the river's mouth. As of the 2020 census, the population of Yazoo City was 10,316.
