Duluth is a port city located in the state of Minnesota within the United States. It serves as the county seat of St. Louis County and is situated on Lake Superior in the state's Arrowhead Region. The city is primarily recognized as a significant hub for cargo shipping.
With a population of 86,697 recorded during the 2020 census, Duluth is the fifth-largest city in Minnesota. It forms a metropolitan area with neighboring Superior, Wisconsin, which together are known as the Twin Ports. The city is located south of the Iron Range and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The name Duluth is derived from Daniel Greysolon, also known as Sieur du Lhut, who was the first known European explorer of the area.
