Big Rapids is a city located in the state of Michigan, United States. It serves as the seat of government for Mecosta County. According to the 2020 census, the city had a population of 7,727, though it was estimated to have reached 8,565 by 2024.
The city is geographically surrounded by Big Rapids Charter Township, although the two areas remain completely separate jurisdictions. A notable characteristic of the city is that it hosts the main campus of Ferris State University, which is a four-year public university.
