Cambridge is a city and non-metropolitan district located in the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It serves as the county town of Cambridgeshire and is situated on the River Cam, approximately 55 miles (89 km) north of London. As of the 2021 United Kingdom census, the population of the City of Cambridge was 145,700, while the wider built-up area reached a population of 181,137.

The area possesses archaeological evidence of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age and served as an important trading center during both the Roman and Viking eras. While the first town charters were granted in the 12th century, the city was not officially conferred with modern city status until 1951.
