Annapolis is the capital city of the U.S. state of Maryland and serves as the county seat of Anne Arundel County. It is the only incorporated city within the county. Located on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, the city is situated approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of Baltimore and about 30 miles (50 km) east of Washington, D.C.
The city forms part of the broader Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. According to the 2020 census, Annapolis had a population of 40,812, representing a 6.3% increase from the 2010 census figures.
