Framingham is a city located in Middlesex County within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States. Situated in the MetroWest subregion of the Greater Boston metropolitan area, the city was originally incorporated in 1700. The city proper covers an area of 25 square miles (65 km2).
As of 2020, Framingham had a population of 72,362, making it the 14th most populous municipality in Massachusetts. Prior to its transition to city status, it held the distinction of being the largest town by population in the state. In April 2017, residents voted to adopt a charter to move from a representative town meeting system to a mayor–council government, with the official transition to city status occurring on January 1, 2018.
