Mansfield is a market town and the administrative centre of the Mansfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. Located in the Maun Valley, the town sits approximately 12 miles (19 km) north of the city of Nottingham. It serves as the largest town within the wider Mansfield urban area and ranks as the second-largest settlement in Nottinghamshire, following Nottingham.
The town was granted a Royal Charter by Henry III to become a market town in 1227. Historically, it was considered the most important of the towns within Sherwood Forest. In modern governance, Mansfield is distinguished as the only local authority in Nottinghamshire that features a publicly elected mayor. As of the 2021 census, the population of the district was recorded at 110,500.
