Warsaw is the capital and most populous city of Poland. Located in east-central Poland, the metropolis stands on the River Vistula. It serves as the seat of government for the country and is also the capital of the Masovian Voivodeship.

The city has an official population of approximately 1.86 million residents, with a greater metropolitan area totaling 3.27 million people. This makes Warsaw the seventh most populous city in the European Union. Classified as an alpha global city, it functions as a major political, economic, and cultural hub.

The city area covers 517 square kilometres and is divided into 18 districts. The surrounding metropolitan area extends over 6,100 square kilometres.
