Somerset, historically known as Somersetshire, is a ceremonial county located in South West England. It is bordered by the Bristol Channel, Bristol, and Gloucestershire to the north; Wiltshire to the east; Dorset to the south-east; and Devon to the south-west.
The city of Bath serves as the largest settlement within the county. The region is characterized by its geographic position in the southwestern portion of the country, surrounded by these neighboring counties and coastal waters.
