Independence

United States

Independence refers to a condition in which a nation, country, or state allows its residents and population, or a specific portion thereof, to exercise self-government and sovereignty over their territory. It is defined as the opposite of being a dependent territory or a colony.

The commemoration of an independence day serves to celebrate the moment a country becomes free from all forms of colonialism. This status allows a nation to build its own government and structure without interference from other nations.
