Highland

United States

Highland refers to areas of high elevation, such as mountainous regions, elevated mountainous plateaus, or high hills. While the term is often used interchangeably with upland, it is generally reserved for ranges of low mountains.

In contrast, uplands typically refer to a range of hills ranging from 300 meters (980 feet) up to 600 meters (2,000 feet). Both terms can also describe regions that serve as transitional terrain between hilly and mountainous landscapes.
