West Elsdon is one of the 77 official community areas located on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois. It is recognized as a twin neighborhood of West Lawn and is privately organized by its own resident group, the West Elsdon Civic Association.
The demographic profile of the area features a mix of dwindling Polish-American residents and an increasing Mexican-American population, which currently constitutes a clear majority. Notable local landmarks include the St. Turibius Roman Catholic church and its adjacent grade school building, which closed in 2013. Additionally, the former Lourdes Roman Catholic girls' high school was converted into Sor Juana Elementary School, which is part of the Chicago Public Schools system.
