The Shoshone, also known as the Shoshoni or by their endonym Newe, are an Indigenous people of the United States. They are characterized by four large cultural and linguistic divisions that span across several different states.
These divisions include the Eastern Shoshone located in Wyoming, the Northern Shoshone in southern Idaho, and the Western Shoshone situated in California, Nevada, and northern Utah. Additionally, the Goshute people are identified as a group associated with western Utah and eastern Nevada.
