Dubuque is the county seat of Dubuque County in the state of Iowa, United States. It is the oldest city in Iowa, having been settled in 1788 and officially chartered in 1833. The city was named in honor of Julien Dubuque, a French-Canadian trader and miner.
Located along the Mississippi River, the city sits at the convergence of the borders for Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. This geographic location is locally referred to as the Tri-State Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of Dubuque was 59,667.
