Woodstock is a town located in the United States. It is historically significant as the namesake for the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, a major music festival held from August 15 to 18, 1969.
The festival took place on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, situated approximately 60 miles southwest of the town of Woodstock. Billed as "an Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music," the event attracted an audience of more than 460,000 people and featured thirty-two outdoor acts performing despite overcast skies and rain.
As one of the largest music festivals in history, the event became a peak musical occurrence reflecting the counterculture of the 1960s.
