Wilmington Island is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located in Chatham County, Georgia. It serves as a large and affluent suburb of Savannah, with most residents commuting to the city for employment. The island is situated east of Savannah, positioned between the town of Thunderbolt and the beach city of Tybee Island.
As of the 2020 U.S. census, Wilmington Island had a population of 15,129. It is officially recognized as part of the broader Savannah metropolitan area.
