Mount Vernon is an American landmark located in Fairfax County, Virginia, situated on the banks of the Potomac River. It is positioned approximately 15 miles (25 km) south of Washington, D.C.
The site served as the former residence and plantation of George Washington, a Founding Father who commanded the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and served as the first president of the United States. The estate was also home to his wife, Martha Washington.
