Duluth is a port city located in the state of Minnesota within the United States. Serving as the county seat of St. Louis County, it is situated on Lake Superior in the state's Arrowhead Region. The city is primarily recognized as a significant hub for cargo shipping.
As of the 2020 census, Duluth had a population of 86,697, making it the fifth-largest city in Minnesota. It forms a metropolitan area with neighboring Superior, Wisconsin, which together are known as the Twin Ports. The city is located south of the Iron Range and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The name Duluth originates from Daniel Greysolon, also known as Sieur du Lhut, who was the area's first known European explorer.
