Princeton

United States

Princeton is a city located in the United States, specifically within the state of New Jersey. It serves as the location for Princeton University, a private Ivy League research institution.

Founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey in Elizabeth, the university is the fourth-oldest institution of higher education in the country and one of nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution. The school moved to Newark in 1747 before establishing its campus in Princeton nine years later.

The institution officially transitioned to a university status in 1896, at which point it was renamed Princeton University.
