Labelle was an American musical band that originated from the girl group The Blue Belles. The original act was formed following the disbanding of two rival girl groups in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Trenton, New Jersey, areas: The Ordettes and The Del-Capris. After forming as a new version of the former group, they eventually changed their name to The Blue Belles.
The founding members of the group included Patti LaBelle, Cindy Birdsong, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash. The ensemble was a popular vocal group during the 1960s and 1970s before evolving into Labelle.
