Jacksonville, colloquially known as Jax, is the most populous city proper in the state of Florida. Located on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida, it serves as the county seat of Duval County. The city consolidated with the county in 1968, a move that extended its boundaries to 900 square miles and placed the majority of Duval County's population within municipal limits.
