Fort Lauderdale is a coastal city situated in the U.S. state of Florida along the Atlantic Ocean. It is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) north of Miami and serves as the seat of government for Broward County.

As of the 2020 census, Fort Lauderdale had a population of 182,760, making it the tenth-most populous city in Florida. It ranks as the third-most populous city in the Miami metro area, which recorded a population of 6,166,488 in 2019.
